Pixelmon and Cobblemon servers bring creature-collecting gameplay into Minecraft. Both are mods that populate the world with Pokémon you can catch, train, evolve and battle, each with its own types, moves and abilities. Pixelmon runs on Forge and uses a turn-based battle screen familiar to fans of the original games, while Cobblemon is a newer mod for Fabric and NeoForge that keeps battles inside the Minecraft world and leans on a more blocky visual style.
Servers built around these mods usually mix collecting with survival: you explore biomes to find rare species, build a base, trade with other trainers and challenge gyms or tournaments. Many add economies, breeding systems, ranked battles and seasonal events. This category suits players who grew up with monster-catching games and want to share that experience with a community, as well as Minecraft fans looking for a goal-driven survival with plenty to collect.
Pixelmon or Cobblemon
Check the server description to see which mod it uses, because the two are not interchangeable and need different installs. Pixelmon is usually played as a Forge modpack, while Cobblemon packs run on Fabric or NeoForge and are widely available on Modrinth and CurseForge.
- Install the exact modpack and version the server lists, ideally through a launcher in a separate profile.
- Look for features you care about: legendary spawns, gyms, an auction house, breeding rules or competitive formats.
- Read the rules on trading and spawn camping, which protect fair access to rare creatures.
- Expect higher memory use than vanilla, as both mods add many models and textures.
Platform note
Both mods are Java Edition only. Bedrock players need a Java account and a compatible launcher to join, since Bedrock clients cannot load these mods.
