What is the difference between survival and SMP?

Survival is the general name for the mode, often extended with plugins such as land claims, an economy, /home and /tpa. SMP (Survival Multiplayer) usually means a smaller community sharing one world, closer to vanilla and focused on cooperation.

What is a vanilla server?

A vanilla server runs without plugins that change gameplay, so every mechanic works exactly like in unmodded Minecraft. Staff may still use technical tools such as an anti-cheat or grief logging.

Is there PvP on survival servers?

It depends on the server. Many survival servers disable PvP at spawn and inside claims and allow fights only in arenas or after toggling PvP on. On anarchy and lifesteal servers PvP is everywhere.

How does lifesteal work?

When you kill a player on a lifesteal server, you take one of their hearts. A player who loses all hearts is eliminated until someone revives them or the season ends.
